Pastry Chef Turns Fondant Into Gorgeous Dolls, So Your Birthday Cakes Look Like Collectible Figurines

Pastry Chef In China Makes Gorgeous Fondant Cakes Shaped Like Chinese Figurines

Scrumptious cakes for special occasions often include a smooth layer of sugary fondant. We’ve seen fondant turned into flowers and stars, but we’ve recently discovered that it can be transformed into human figurines too.

Pastry chef Zhou Yi is a true master in his craft, for he is also known as “Sugar King” in China, according to BoredPanda.

He runs creative dessert courses and posts some of his creations on social media.

His works look so beautiful that we’ll probably consider these as displays, instead of edible treats.

Who knew fondant could be molded into porcelain-like sculptures until we discovered his stunning pieces of craftsmanship.

When entering a bakery shop, we often stop and stare at round cakes with elegant decorations or small figurines. However, Mr Yi took this to the next level by mastering dough modelling and food carving.

Another figurine features a bewitching woman that may cast a spell on your desserts.

We’ve fantasised over traditional Chinese dresses with voluminous silk from historical dramas like Yanxi Palace, so we’re definitely enamoured by this outfit.

Samurai & shamans

Yi’s vast works of art also include powerful shamans and samurais.

If you’re worried about your siblings stealing your dessert, then you could rely on this fearsome demon samurai to guard it for you.

Those familiar with the Chinese novel, Journey to the West, will easily recognize Sun Wukong. The mischievous trickster god can easily manipulate the 4 elements and transform into 72 different animals or objects.

Passing on his teachings

Mr Zhou Yi seems eager to pass on his teachings to the next generation of pastry chefs.

He currently runs courses and online consultations for the Sugar King school. His team also won 4 gold awards at the international fondant cake contest “Cake International 2019” last November 2019 in the United Kingdom.

We hope his creations will become available in Singapore, so we can get these gorgeous fondant sculptures for our birthdays.
