Tampines HDB lifts malfunctioned after heavy rain on 22 Nov
An HDB block in Tampines lost both its lifts after heavy rain on Friday (22 Nov) evening, which caused rain to enter the elevators.
Workers rushed to repair the elevators and managed to get one working by midnight.
According to a Facebook post by Tampines GRC MP Baey Yam Keng, the affected block — 450D Tampines Street 42 — will only have one functional elevator next week while repairs are ongoing for the other lift.
Heavy rains cause elevators to malfunction
The bout of torrential rain on Friday (22 Nov) evening caused the pair of elevators at Block 450D to malfunction.
The floor traps at the rooftop motor room were clogged, causing water to leak into the lifts.
Speaking to 8world News, some residents compared the flooded lifts to a cave with a waterfall at its entrance.
Photos shared by Mr Baey showed workers using leaf blowers to clear the clogged water. The repairmen worked throughout the evening and managed to get one of the elevators operational by midnight.
Only 1 operational elevator for next week
Mr Baey, who was at a dinner event at the time, praised the workers’ speediness and dedication.
“Many thanks to the team for working till late on a Friday evening,” he said.
Unfortunately, the second elevator will need additional parts and will remain under repairs for next week.
According to texts shared by Mr Baey, repairs on the second elevator are expected to be finished by next Friday (29 Nov).
“Seeking residents’ understanding that only one lift will be in operation for the next week. Please do take care of this remaining working lift. We will repair the other lift asap,” he said in the post.
