Passenger makes PHV uncle’s day by gifting him red packet after her ride during Chinese New Year
A simple gesture by a passenger has warmed hearts online after she surprised her private-hire driver with a red packet at the end of her ride.
In a TikTok video posted on 28 Feb, user @wenzzz583 shared how a short ride turned into a memorable moment.
Passenger gifts red packet after heartfelt comment
During the journey, the driver, whom she affectionately referred to as “uncle”, struck up a casual conversation and asked if she was heading to work that day.
When the Original Poster (OP) replied yes, he paused before remarking: “Wah…very hardworking leh.”

Though simple, the comment left an impression on her. As the ride came to an end, she decided to do something in return.
“Before getting off, I decided to make his day,” she wrote in the video.
The OP then handed the driver a red packet, saying, “This is for good fortune. Uncle, happy new year!”
Driver visibly touched by gesture
The uncle appeared pleasantly surprised and thanked her warmly, wishing her a happy new year in return.
He also asked if she was married — as red packets are traditionally given by married individuals — to which she replied yes.

The video ended with her expressing hope that she had made his day “a little better”.
In her caption, she also described the act as “just a small way to make someone’s day”.

The video quickly gained traction, with many praising the passenger for her kindness.

OP says she was moved by driver’s sincerity
In response to MS News queries, @wenzzz583 said the wholesome encounter happened on the morning of 28 Feb on her way to work.
She clarified that she had mistakenly stated Grab in her post when she had actually booked her ride using Zig (formerly the ComfortDelGro Taxi Booking App).

She recalled that when she told the uncle she would be working until 9pm, he responded sincerely that she was “very hardworking”.
“It was such a simple comment, but it made me feel warm that someone took the time to ask and care,” she recalled.
At the same time, she felt that he was just as hardworking and that both of them were simply doing their best.
Wanted to show appreciation for driver
@wenzzz583 told MS News that she felt like doing something meaningful before alighting to let the uncle know that he was appreciated.
“I found an empty red packet in my bag, so I put money inside and passed it to him,” she shared.
According to her, the uncle did not expect it at all and was genuinely surprised.
It felt nice to be able to make someone a little happier.

“It also reminded me that even small interactions can stay with us, and sometimes small gestures mean more than we expect,” she added.
