2 restaurants in Little India suspended for 2 weeks over hygiene lapses

Two restaurants in Little India, The Banana Leaf Apolo and Shahi Briyani House, have been suspended for 2 weeks and fined for hygiene issues.

Both eateries have had their licenses suspended from 8 to 21 Nov and they were fined $1,000 and $1,100 respectively.

Accumulated over 12 demerit points due to offences committed

According to the Singapore Food Agency’s statement on Friday (8 Nov), The Banana Leaf Apolo had accumulated 14 demerit points following its failure to keep the premises and appliances clean, as well as for its sale of unhygienic food.

Meanwhile, Shahi Briyani House had collected 16 demerit points after its premises were found unclean and infested. It also failed to register one of its assistants.

Located at 56 Race Course Road, The Banana Leaf Apolo serves Indian cuisine, as does Shahi Briyani House at 10 Rowell Road.

Licensed food shops that earn 12 or more demerit points in a year could have their license suspended for two or four weeks or cancelled.

All food handlers and hygiene officers at suspended eateries must re-certify for food safety before they can return to their businesses.

The SFA encourages food business operators to consistently uphold high standards of food safety and personal hygiene.
