Passenger suffers burns on buttocks after finding unknown liquid on Osaka subway seat
On Thursday (10 Oct), a passenger on Osaka Metro’s Tanimachi Line suffered burns on his buttocks after sitting on an unknown liquid.
According to an NHK report, the man was seated on the train but got off after feeling pain in his behind.
A train staff member reported the incident to the police at around 9.30pm.
At the scene, police and firefighters found a 57-year-old male passenger with minor burns on his buttocks. He was sent to the hospital for treatment.
Clear, odourless liquid suspected to be chemical
According to local reports, police investigations revealed that a clear, odourless liquid had been on the seat where the man sat, enough to affect just one person.
Based on the nature of the burns, authorities suspect that the man’s skin came into contact with some type of chemical.
The police are considering the incident as a possible assault and are analyzing the chemical on the seat, reports Yahoo Japan.
They are also reviewing the security camera footage.
Train seat was replaced immediately
Osaka Metro stated that the seat with the liquid was located near the centre of the sixth car of a six-car train, on the left side in the direction of travel.

They said that the seat was replaced immediately after the train arrived at Dainichi Station.
The metro also announced plans to issue warnings to passengers and reinforce in-car inspections at turnaround terminals and patrols within stations.
