Sam Smith Spotted In Orchard A Day After Concert, Fits Right In With SG Lepak Style

Sam Smith Spotted Strolling Along Orchard In Lepak Outfit Day After Concert

Occasionally, we hear of lucky Singaporeans running into a major celebrity while going about their day, like that one time Jackson Wang casually walked into a café in Siglap.

Now, another big star has been spotted in the wild — or rather, Orchard — and it is none other than Sam Smith.

The ‘Stay With Me’ hitmaker had been in town since at least Tuesday (24 Oct) for a one-night concert. The very next day, a fan unexpectedly saw them exploring the city with a companion.

To Singaporeans’ amusement, they wore a casual outfit, which looked right out of a lepak-style starter pack.

Passer-by spotted Sam Smith at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel

Yesterday (25 Oct), TikTok user @skyler26remy — who goes by Ying — ran into Sam Smith in Orchard and subsequently shared a video of the sighting.

The 31-year-old crooner was pictured with a companion walking past a Coffee Bean outlet in Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel.

As their concert at Singapore Indoor Stadium was held just the day before, they likely had a bit of time to take in some local sights before jet-setting to their next destination.

While they are known for their flamboyant onstage persona, Smith went casual for this outing in a black singlet and matching shorts.

At the same time, the sleeveless ensemble showed off the singer-songwriter’s many arm tattoos.

To finish the look, they donned bright green socks with beige sneakers for a small pop of colour.

Singaporeans liken singer’s Orchard outfit to SG lepak style

Smith’s laidback outfit stood out instantly, with one viewer praising them for rocking the ‘SG lepak style’.

Ying replied with a ‘rock on’ and two heart emojis, while another commenter quipped that Smith was one green physical training (PT) shirt away from truly looking like a local.

Given how Smith did not appear to be swarmed by fans in the video, one viewer wondered if anyone recognised them or asked for photos.

Ying responded that people did, but added that most Singaporeans don’t pay much heed to celebrities.

Another TikTok user verified Ying’s video by saying that they, too, saw Smith near Takashimaya, although they did not see anyone asking for photos.

The OP replied that she did not ask for a photo out of respect for their private time. However, she revealed that Smith did greet her by blowing her a kiss after she said hi.

In a separate comment, she also revealed that Smith was spotted in Orchard at 3.50pm yesterday (25 Oct).

Last but not least, one viewer simply could not wrap their head around the fact that a star like Smith could just be randomly walking around a busy area like Orchard.

Singer smile & replied when OP greeted them

Speaking to MS News, Ying said that she was at Lucky Plaza when she spotted Smith strolling with their friend.

After walking alongside them for a short distance, Ying stopped at Far East Plaza where she had to catch a bus.

Smith and their companion were then seen walking towards Goodwood Park Hotel.

Ying also shared that she greeted Smith when they stopped together for traffic to pass. The British singer apparently responded by saying “hello” and giving a big smile.

The OP said she chose not to ask for a picture as she did not want to ruin their experience of “freely walking around Orchard”.

While it is unclear whether the singer is still in town, we hope they had a ball of a time here exploring Singapore.

As tempting as it may be to ask Smith to ‘Stay With Me Us’, we will just have to wait until their next concert here.
