Grand Hyatt Hotel Fire Started From A Restaurant

A fire broke out at a restaurant in Grand Hyatt Hotel at Scotts Road on Wednesday (27 Mar), reported Channel NewsAsia.

Thick smoke was seen “billowing” out of the hotel at around 11.30am.

According to a Grand Hyatt security guard, “smoke was billowing and engulfed the main lobby”.

Hotel entrance cordoned off

An eyewitness told Channel NewsAsia that a fire alarm went off at around 11am.

A few public announcements were made informing guests of the fire, and a final one was made calling for an evacuation.

The hotel entrance was cordoned off at around noon.

SCDF reacted quickly to emergency

SCDF personnel swiftly arrived at the scene at about 11.20am.

According to SCDF, the fire started from a kitchen stove and exhaust ducting in a second-storey restaurant.

It is understood that the restaurant is mezza9.

Orderly evacuations made

An eyewitness told Channel NewsAsia that hotel staff evacuated guests from the hotel in an orderly and professional manner, with “someone on every floor to guide [them] down”.

At about 12.50pm, guests were allowed back into the hotel but there was still a lingering smoke smell.

As of the time of this article, no one has been hurt as a result of this incident.
