Haji Lane cafe Rumi The Poet’s Cup to close down on 30 March

Rumi The Poet’s Cup, a popular cafe spot in Haji Lane, will shutter its doors on 30 March. They announced this decision on their Instagram page on Sunday (9 March).

According to Channel News Asia (CNA), the reason for the closure was undisclosed. The cafe only shared a video and a post bidding farewell to customers, calling it “The Last Chapter”.

Rumi The Poet’s Cup gained a reputation for its diverse menu of artisanal drinks, including favourites like Teh Tarik, caramel macchiatos, and matcha lattes.

Beyond its impressive drink offerings, the café was well-known for its vibrant live music sessions and game nights, which made it a favourite spot for young people looking to unwind.

No reason given for closure

The cafe has posted a farewell video dedicated to patrons who have spent countless hours at the establishment.

“Thank you for the memories, the laughter, and the love,” the caption read, expressing their deepest appreciation to all who have supported the establishment throughout its four years of existence.

Another in a wave of big name brand closures

Rumi The Poet’s Cup’s closure is part of a larger trend, with several big-name brands pulling out of Singapore in recent months.

On Monday (10 March), Eggslut, an American sandwich chain at Scott Square, has quietly ceased its business operation, marking its exit in the Singapore market.

The establishment opened its first Southeast Asian outlet in September 2021, drawing long queues with wait times of at least an hour.

Eggslut later opened a second outlet at Suntec City in 2022 but closed it a year later.

A few days earlier, Burger & Lobster also announced the closure of its sole outlet at Jewel Changi Airport, offering a one-for-one deal on lobster rolls as part of its farewell.

However, F&B businesses were not the only ones affected. Japanese lifestyle brand Hands also announced the closure of its Jewel Changi Airport store after almost six years.

British health and wellness brand Holland & Barrett is reportedly closing all 12 of its stores in Singapore.
