Subway station stairs in China turn into ‘slide’ during rainy days
Residents in Sichuan, China have recently reported that the stairs at Exit D of Chengdu Metro’s Chunxi Road Station turn into a “slide” during rainy days which they attribute to a problem with the materials used for the stairs.

As a result, some people have placed cameras next to the exit to demonstrate how dangerous the stairs are for commuters.
In a viral 23-second video, 11 people were seen falling on the stairs, which are only three to four steps high.
Some citizens mentioned that they had complained to the subway authorities about the dangerous condition of the stairs, but no action was taken.
Netizens express concern
The video garnered numerous comments on social media, with many people criticizing Chengdu Metro for the dangerous stairs and expressing concerns about passengers potentially suffering serious injuries from falls.
According to a Sing Tao Daily report, some commenters were particularly worried about the risk to pregnant individuals and those with bad lumbar spines.

“It hurts even through the screen,” one commenter reportedly said.
Meanwhile, some jested about the situation, suggesting a live broadcast at the location would be popular.
Chengdu Metro to implement safety measures
Following the viral incident, Chengdu Metro responded to local media, stating it had received public feedback and would be implementing safety measures.
These measures include adding warning signs to indicate slippery conditions on rainy days, installing anti-slip strips on the steps, and stationing staff at the site to remind passengers to be cautious of slipping.
Local media has since reported that Chengdu Metro has installed anti-slip strips on the stairs, wrote Sing Tao Daily.
